Warhammer Renaissance armyproject 2024

Inspired, like many before us, by the White Dwarf articles series "A Tale of Four Gamers" (WD 218->);
a couple of Swedish Warhammer enthusiasts recently decided to make a small armychallenge for the coming year. Beginning January 2024, we will be introducing and presenting our armyprojects monthly.

The guidelines are as follows:

2000 points worth of army, for the fan-made Warhammer Renaissance ruleset, presented each month in batches of ~400 points.

We will each start the year by introducing our respective armyprojects and ideas.
The sixth and last month will be for finishing leftovers or extras, summarizing our efforts and presenting our finished armyprojects.

Part 3: Ogres, ogres, ogres

I strarted this moth with painting a mortar. So now I have a great cannon, a hellblaster and a mortar. With that my artillery section is halfway done.

All of a sudden I found mayself the owner of eight lovely imperial ogres and they saved me in term of points (allmost).

And now march has just started and I already feel I'm behind in painting.

Part 3, February, Jacob´s Slaanesh army

Ok, month 2! This was a busy one, so in the end I focused on a single model, the Keeper of Secrets. Im my opinion this is one of the best models from this era and a real pleasure to paint. Next month I have to finsish my warriors and a chaos sorcerer -while away for three weeks, so wish me luck :).

Part 3, February, John´s Wood elves

In hindsight, I think 20 Archers was a bit too much for this month. Alas, I was done painting the unit one day after our deadline. I had to rush a few things, but overall i´m happy with the unit:

Next month, i´m treating myself to a lot fewer models; a unit of Bears and my Mage lord for a total of 398p. If I can find the time, I might paint the chariot as well. Otherwise I might just go back and paint some gems. We´ll see...

Part 3: February - Niklas' Orcs & Goblins

Hello again! This month went pretty smoothly, mostly because I decided to take it easy and focus most of my efforts into a single character, a level 4 Orc shaman.

What is it about painting greenskins that's so fun? I think most of it has to do with the characterful faces and expressions by Kev Adams that makes it such a joy. This particular sculpt is from Knightmare Miniatures, also sculpted by Adams, and it's an absolute beauty. I had lots of fun painting this grumpy boy, and he'll make a great main wizard for my army.

Since painting the shaman only took a day or so, I had plenty of time left to add another unit, so I decided to paint the 20 plastic goblin archers I had. While these sculpts are charming, they were somewhat awkward to deal with. The previous owner's paintjob almost refused to come off through my usual paint stripping method, and some of it had to be left on. If that wasn't bad enough, these old plastics were absolutely riddled with production errors. A lot of them had bubbles and warping that made some of them look like they have double chins or horrible tumors in certain places. I tried to clean them up best as I could, and decided to just get them done as quick as possible. Overall I think they look alright on the tabletop, and that's good enough for me.

In other news, I'm trying to replicate the old WD photo style in GIMP

Next month will be a bit tougher since I won't be able to "cheat" with a high point cost character. I hope to see you all again then!

February points total:

Characters

- Common Orc Shaman Lord (Level 4)
(Dispel Magic Scroll, Seerstone, Talisman of Luck, Sword of Bork) - 330 pts

Total: 400 pts
